Match Report:

After a wet and wild weekend the weather was on its best behaviour for this Monday long weekend clash.

Following a number of slow starts in recents weeks GRM were after a fast start, however things didn't go to plan with Adrian required to pull off a great 1:1 save in the opening minutes. The lads tried to impose themselves but were second best in the early stages with Hawks playing a typically aggressive brand of football. In the 7th minute the Hawks were awarded a dubious free-kick for handball from about 30 yards, the wall did it's job but we fell asleep for a moment and the deflection fell to an unmarked attacker who took his chance well. 1-0 Hawks.

Hawks had us rocking for the next 5-10 minutes with a number of chances on goal, some great last ditch defending by Smirny, Xander and Adrian in goal kept us in the game.  Coach Adrian then made a number of tactical and personel changes and we started to keep the ball with Owen working hard in midfield, Bailey providing an injection and some good interplay between Luca V and Dean on the left. A nice attack from Solomon and Luca H led to freekick just outside the box which Bailey hit just over the bar. This was followed by a length of the pitch run out of defence by the big man Smirny resulting in an attacking throw in, Owen controlled nicely and laid of a nice pass to Luca H who shot wide.

After the slow start the boys really began to put themselves about, improved the movement off the ball and competed physically as the half progressed. 1-0 down at half time.

Second half started with GRM making all the play and dominating possesion. The boys created 4 or 5 chances inside the first 5 minutes with nice interplay in midfield leading to some fine runs from Moses on the left and Sonal down the right.  Sebastian also played a number of good long diagonal balls into the path of Sonal who was able to get in behind the Hawks on a number of occassions leading to a couple of 1:1 situations and some great crosses with both Solomon and Mahan both going close. Finally the pressure was rewarded when Joel picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and showed great composure to place a well taken goal into the bottom corner - 1-1.

The game opened up and there were chances at either end, the Hawks took advantage of a couple of lapses in midfield and launched a stinging strike that Adrian touched brilliantly onto the crossbar, the resulting rebound was cleared off the line with some deperate defending. The resultant corner led to some sloppy defending and we gave away a penalty. Up stepped Adrian again to make an incredible save low-down to his right, he had been outstanding all game and the penalty save inspired his team to go on and try and win the game.

We had a few further chances with Solomon going close with a header from a super cross from Joel and Mahan and Sonal striking on goal. Some solid late defending by Thomas, Sebastian and young Ryan (helping us out from the U/13’s) together with Adrian making another superb save with a few minutes to play to keep the score level - he was oustanding.

Greatly improved effort by the lads. Following another slow start we played a good brand of football for 40-45minutes, fashioned numerous chances and were competitive all across the park.

Keep it up boys, more of the same.
