Match Report:

Unlike their first round encounter in which both sides shared the spoils in a six goal thriller, this time there were no goals to be found as Dunbar Rovers and Gladesville Ryde Magic laboured to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night at Hensley Athletic Field.

Dunbar’s Andrew Doddy made space for himself on 12 minutes before shooting wide of the Magic goal, whilst Ryan Shaughnessy cleared the crossbar in the 22nd minute when facing the goal from close range.

Gladesville’s attackers, Heo Wookbum and Chris Tomaras, were trying valiantly to unlock the Dunbar defence, with Tomaras himself shooting just wide in the 28th minute after taking matters in to his own hands.

Tomaras was at it again in the 51st minute, whipping over a free kick that was headed wide by Gladesville’s central defender, Sergio Tarazona.

Fierce defending from both sides meant plenty of stoppages with a number of free kicks awarded by the officials, but neither side could take advantage.

Dunbar Rovers came home with a wet sail and threw everything at Gladesville in search of that elusive goal, but alas, it never came, with the Gladesville Ryde Magic defence standing firm. Todd Nelson had a great game and was especially effective at right back, whilst veteran custodian, Kyriakos Tohouroglou diverted any danger if the Dunbar attack ever did squeeze through.

Tod Bamber actually did find the net towards the end, but his volleyed effort was turned down due to an offside decision.

Micaiah Te Rata had the final chance of the game with a free header at the death, but his effort cleared the Gladesville cross bar.

The point apiece sees Dunbar move to 19 but remain in 10th position on the ladder, whilst Gladesville Ryde Magic climb to 4th position, moving to 28 points in the process.
