Match Report:

Right from the starting whistle, the U18’s had a hard time finding their groove. The combinations were not happening and they failed to win the 50/50 ball against SD Raiders. Too many passes were intercepted by the pressing opposition. We were not without our chances. We had several opportunities  that went begging and the referee awarded us numerous free kicks in a fairly physical game. However we couldn’t capitalise on the chances presented to us.

With 2 minutes to go until half time, a long ball came down the right side and the SD winger crossed the ball across an open goal mouth. An uncontested SD raider player was first to the ball to take another strong strike on goal. Connor had the ball lined up and was ready for the save but unfortunately it was deflected on the way through and the change in angle meant that he had to reposition himself. He did well to get a hand to the ball and save it the first time. It fell at the feet of a SD Raiders player and they were able to tap it in. 1-0 and Half time.

The boys fought back valiantly but the SD Raiders had a strong backline and we were unable to penetrate it.

We had numerous corners but nothing that looked dangerous. We simply couldn’t connect with the ball. In the dying last minutes Lachie was awarded a free kick. He took it long and high into the box. James ran on to and was just a touch too deep. He got his right foot onto for a volley but his head was too far back and it went high over the goals. We had one last corner before the end, even Connor came up to try and make a strike, but it wasn’t to be. Special mentions to Jake who was tireless in defence, Ben Kennedy who rallied the team with his encouragement and Nick Pearson who was tireless in running the front line against 2 or 3 defenders consistently. Not our day but certainly some hard work was put in by the boys today.
